Our Club
WWGFC has a steady core of around 300 members and is based at the SYC Clubrooms, Sandspit, on the east coast 9kms from Warkworth.
We run 3 main tournaments throughout the year, The WGFC One Base at Great Barrier Island usually the first week of March, the 10kg Tournament on Queens Birthday Weekend (May/June), and in November we hold a Ladies Only event that is growing rapidly.
The Club has a weighmaster available at all times, in the locations of Great Barrier Isl, Port Albert, Matakana, Sandspit, Omaha, Leigh, and Warkworth.
An extensive inventory of trophies is competed for each year, and presentations made at our AGM in July or August (changed from year to year).
Local fishing is excellent for snapper, kingfish, and other quality table fare. Sandspit is also extensively used as a base for ventures further afield, to the Mokohinaus, Great Barrier, and the Hen and Chicks, where big gamefishing is available when the weather is behaving.
WWGFC members have a proud history of competing successfully in events throughout New Zealand and a strong family focus that sees our juniors not just having fun but also achieving catch records.
NZSFC (NZ Sport Fishing Council) and IGFA (International Game Fishing Association) affiliations mean WWGFC members receive reciprocal benefits when competing and visiting other Clubs.
We are proud to support LegaSea in its fine efforts and achievements in enhancing the recreational fishing experience and restoration of abundance for ALL. The development of non-destructive, high value, non-bulk harvested, and close as possible to zero wastage commercial fishing can be part of this vision. Rec fishers must strive for high standards of care in the releasing of fish.
We encourage our members, other NZSFC Club members and non-members of Clubs to support LegaSea in the form of a LegaSea Legends contribution. Check out www.legasea.co.nz and get on board TODAY. There is just no arguing about the LegaSea 5 Principles, they’re onto it so get behind them for less than the price of a packet of bait each month. Be someone that can say they helped rebuild abundance!
