2017 Ladies Comp Report

Nov 12, 2017Event Results

That’s what pirates say…. It’s also what some of the ladies said while losing their breakfast over the side in the roughest WGFC Ladies Fishing Event so far.

But the serious bounty of prizes, an awesome dinner, and not bad fishing made up for the 30knots of southerly and 1m chop. How pirates stand up on a wooden leg in that rubbish is hard to believe.
There was more than 50 snapper measured and some solid kahawai. A number of good kingfish were also measured and would have been a handful in those condi-ons.
The results look a bit like this:
Longest 5 snappers:
61cm Lexi Carter
60cm (equal) Poppy Stenbeck and Sally Adams
56cm Lee Adkins
55.5cm Vanessa Adkins
Kahawai:
57cm Lexi Carter
55.5cm Ka-e Gribble
46cm Kim Denston
45.5cm (equal) Tina Ingham & Louise O’Sullivan
Kingfish (longest other fish):
82cm Kim Denston
80cm Lexi Carter
79cm Poppy Stenbeck

Way too happy and good looking to be pirates! The crew from Pitbull skippered by Steve Hunt
Thanks John & Wendy
The Wharangi crew
Carlton & Michelle on Golden Eye, down from Marsden Cove for the event
The average length snapper is the Mystery Travel Voucher treasure sponsored by Southeys Group and Warkworth World Travellers. This year the average length was 39.18cm, with Vanessa Adkins slightly on the long side at 40cm and Sally Adams (McDonaldAdams Optometrists) closest at 38.5cm.
The Best Dressed Team was a tough pick for our barpersons (thanks Kim & Lisa) because everyone got into the swing of pirateness. This year the prize went to the Hamilton/Buchs crew on Lady Jade.
The Lucky Skipper Draw featured a pressure washer from Repco Ww, and was picked up by Steve Hunt. Must be fate because he had just broken his father in laws one. Of course, being a pirate, he’s just going to give the broken one back to his father-in-law. The Earlybird draw went to Jane Southey from Karakia

Michelle Smyth (Smyth Haulage) is deserving of a special men-on for her work with sponsors and pop-up-party decora-on of the SYC venue.
Damn the weather, but really the only thing that suffered was entrant numbers. The quality of the par-cipants, fun-mes, dinner, and apprecia-on of the great prizes was all superb. Your totally undaunted WGFC looks forward to bringing you ladies (and man slaves) the WGFC Ladies Fishing Event in November 2018.

2023 10kg Event

2023 10kg Event

2023 10kg Fishing Event Although the average and top 10 snapper look pretty good, it was a common observation that their condition was patchy. Yup, a few of the ‘mushy fillet’ sort, but a large proportion of snapper and kahawai had a ‘hollow’ in theirbelly profile,...

10KG 2022

There was almost exactly the same excellent turn out for the 10kg tournament 2022 as last year, and again the face of an untidy forecast. But Saturday arvo was a good reminder of why we do this — the wind dropped, fish were biting, the sun was hot, and drinks were...
